Furniture care and maintenance
When you purchase a bespoke piece of furniture, it’s very important to respect and look after it. It’s a big investment after all, and proper care and thoughtful maintenance can ensure it is kept in the best condition possible. This will not only ensure it stays looking great, but also means it can retain its value should you ever which to sell it on later.
We put a lot of love into all of the furniture we make, and we want you to be able to love it for years and years to come. This means you need to take the time to give it the care that it deserves in the form of good cleaning and maintenance.
In particular, glass should always be treated with a great deal of care. Glass coffee and dining tables look great when they’re glimmering clean, but they attract dust and fingerprint marks quickly. To keep your table top sparkling, we recommend using methylated sprits or glass cleaner and a soft clean cloth to swipe the surface regularly. Using a paper towel will leave lint and can leave streaks behind so you can also use a lint-free microfiber cloth to avoid this. We suggest doing this once a week at least - or even more if you have small children and pets, or if the furniture is in use a lot.
Although glass surfaces do not get marked by hot cups or plates, over time normal everyday use of furniture may cause small scratches or scuffs to appear, and the glass can quite literally lose its sparkle. Unfortunately there’s no such thing as a scratch proof glass. With the right materials and a little elbow grease, you should be able to invisibly reduce scratches and marks on your glass tops. You will need-
- Glass or window cleaner, or simply vinegar and newspaper
- Kitchen paper and a lint-free cotton cloth for polishing
- Whitening toothpaste, metal polish or jewellers’ rouge
First of all, clean the surface thoroughly, using the glass/window cleaner or vinegar, and wipe it dry using some kitchen towel. Then apply a small amount of toothpaste, polish or rouge to the affected area. Rub for a few minutes using a circular motion to work it into the scratched glass and then polish to a shine using a soft cloth. You may need to reapply and repeat this process several times, but it should greatly improve the appearance of any scratches.
Keeping your Metalwork clean is also massively important for its aesthetic appeal to remain intact. Metal furniture collects dust and grime just as easily as any other furniture and it has the added risk of developing rust. Whether your metal furniture is used indoors or outdoors, it can massively benefit from a regular cleaning schedule to remove any debris build up.
Our furniture can be cleaned with a damp cloth and, if necessary a mild detergent. To remove grease you can simply use a glass/window cleaner and a paper towel.
